Monday 27th February to Sunday 12th March
Put FairTrade in your break
Its FairTrade Fortnight and GCDA wants to share with you what we are doing.
GCDA are dedicated to only using FairTrade product whenever possible. Our food policy (click here) has very clear guidance for all of our staff on projects to follow, whether it’s in our staff room, our community centre, community cooker clubs or selling it’s in our cafes. We also have a section dedicated to sustainable food which includes FareTraid in our ‘Food business training’.
Buying FairTrade product ensures that the products such as tea, coffee, sugar, bananas, and chocolate are bought from the farmers for a fair and better price. FairTrade report that 1 in 3 people in Kenya’s coffee and tea growing regions live in poverty and 1 in 4 children in Kenya’s coffee and tea growing regions are malnourished, leading to stunted growth. Committing to only buying FairTrade not only for the fortnight but now and forever more, you ensure that a good portion of the money you spend goes directly to the people how are most in need.
We now have our FairTrade kit and information and leaflets from the FairTrade website. We will be delivered information throughout all the projects we run. We are very proud to only selling FairTrade tea, coffee, and sugar at our community centre. During FairTrade Fortnight our café called Henri’s in the Bracton Centre will be making and selling FairTrade banana bread served with FairTrade hot drinks.
Remember FairTrade products don’t just stop at hot drinks and Bananas! We also need to be thinking about FairTrade nuts, wines, fruit, vegetables, cotton, Gold, flowers for more look out for the FairTrade sign when you shop and know you are making a better desition for all.
